Police officer killed in Yola, as soldiers, police personnel clash

A police inspector, Jacob Daniel, has been killed in a clash between personnel of the Nigerian army and police officers in Yola,  Adamawa state.
The Adamawa state police commissioner, Afolabi Babatola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesdayin Yola.
The statement signed by Suleiman Nguroje, Adamawa police spokesperson, on behalf of the commissioner, said Daniel was killed after some soldiers attacked the police command headquarters in Yola north LGA of the state.
The statement said the officer died during the exchange of gunfire between personnels of the two security outfits.
Babalola said the soldiers had stormed the police headquarters over a “conflict” with some officers at the Target Junction in Yola north LGA.
The police commissioner condemned the incident and “warned that attacks on all security officers in the line of duty would no longer be tolerated under whatever guise”.
He also ordered an immediate investigation into the incident while appealing for calm among police officers.
The police commissioner assured that the top management of both security agencies were doing everything legally possible to address the situation.
Agency reports quoted  the commander of 23 Brigade, Yola, Col. Gambo Mohammed,saying that the fracas started after a military personnel was shot in the leg by a police officer on patrol.
He said the injured soldier was  taken to the Federal Medical Centre Yola for medical treatment.
