NLC, TUC, suspend nation wide strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have suspended the nationwide strike  embarked upon on Tuesday.
The decision to suspend  the strike was taken  after leaders of the two unions met with representatives of the federal government on Wednesday at the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) in Abuja.
The unions said the suspension followed the intervention of the NSA, Nuhu Ribadu.
The labour leaders said they received a commitment from the Ribadu-led meeting that those arrested for the physical assault on the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, would be prosecuted.
Ajaero was reportedly picked up from the Imo council secretariat of the congress in Owerri by heavily armed police officers and brutalised.
The National Deputy Vice-President of the TUC, Tommy Etim, said in an interview with journalists on at the end of a meeting of the NEC of the two unions that the strike has b been euspended.
“The NEC of the NLC and the TUC have suspended the strike. We did this based on our trust for the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who gave us his words,” he said.
