A former governor of Plateau state, Senator Jonah Jang, has denied calling for the resignation of state governor, Caleb Mutfwang, over his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The denial was contained in a statement on Monday in Jos, by Clinton Garuba, media consultant to the former governor.
Garuba described reports circulating in some print and online media outlets as misleading and adding that the former governor was quoted out of context.
The statement reads: “The attention of Sen. Jonah David Jang has been drawn to a misleading report in some print and online media outlets.
“The report attempts to portray him as calling on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to resign following his defection from the PDP to the APC.
‘’For clarity, Jang was quoted out of context. At no time during the PDP stakeholders’ meeting did he call for Mutfwang’s resignation.
“Rather, he criticised politicians for leaving their parties to join others’’.
The statement further urged Plateau residents to disregard such reports and continue supporting the governor to succeed.
The denial follows reports on Sunday claiming that Jang, while speaking at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting, asked Mutfwang to resign and contest a fresh election for defecting from the party, insisting that the governorship mandate was given to the party not an individual.
