Akande: Buhari’s spirit will live forever because of his good works

Bisi Akande, pioneer National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former Osun state governor has described the late former President,
Muhammadu Buhari as a patriotic Nigerian whose “spirit will live forever because of his good works.”
Akande stated this in an interview with journalists on Wednesday in Kaduna during a condolence visit to the family of the late former president.
Buhari died in a London Hospital on July 13,2025.
Akande said Buhari’s death was shocking and painful to him.
“I felt sad that he died. I met him in Daura after he left office.
“We had a nice time together, he was looking robust, very strong and in a joke, I said I am going back to my village, he too said he is in his village in Daura”, Akande recalled his last moments with Buhari.
He said by the time Buhari moved to Kaduna, he was preparing to visit him, but the deceased told him that he had travelled.
“By the time he moved to Kaduna, I was preparing to come and see him, and he told me he travelled.
“I didn’t ask questions, I travelled too. When I was abroad, I learnt that he passed away! Very, very painful.
“When I came back, I felt the first thing I should do is to come and see his family and commiserate with them.
“He was a great Nigerian… maybe he was an angel coming in human flesh. He has done his bid, and he had passed.
“His spirit will continue to live forever because of the good works he did”, Akande said.
The elder statesman was accompanied by Senator Abu Ibrahim, Sunday Dare, former Sports Minister, Mahmud Abdullahi, APC chieftain, Silas Agara, Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mr. Silas Agara, and Mohammed Yakubu, Convener, Arewa Think Tank.
They were received at Buhari’s Kaduna residence by Aisha Buhari, former First Lady and Yusuf Buhari, eldest son.
Prayers were offered for the reposed of the soul of the former president.
In his remarks, Yusuf Buhari expressed deep appreciation to Akande and his entourage for their solidarity with the family at such a painful moment.
He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for standing with the family and for giving his late father the honour he deserved.
“We are grateful to President Tinubu for standing with us and giving our father the honour he deserved.
“We also appreciate all Nigerians for their prayers, their messages, and their visits. The support we have received has been overwhelming, and we do not take it for granted,” Yusuf said.
