Christian stakeholders in Kaduna State have endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani for re-election in 2027, pledging to mobilise Christians across Northern Nigeria to support their candidacies.
The stakeholders, under the Tinubu Uba Sani Support Organisation (TUSO), announced their decision in a communiqué issued after a meeting in Ikara, Kaduna State, on Saturday.
The communiqué was jointly signed by Dr. Manzo Daniel Maigari, TUSO convener and Chairman of Kachia Local Government Area, and Hon. Matthew Kaku, Director General of the group.
The meeting brought together Christian leaders from Southern and Northern Kaduna, including the leadership of the Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), CAN chairmen from the nine local government areas in Northern Kaduna, including Giwa, and representatives of the Southern Kaduna Leadership Elders’ Council.
Others present included the chairman of the 63 Community Development Associations, the Deputy Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, the political counsellor to Governor Sani and Professor Dauda Ishaya, the outgoing President of Hausa Christians.
According to the communiqué, the stakeholders resolved to establish a national body to promote Christian political participation across the 19 northern states.
“They also called on Christian political leaders to unite and advance their collective interests.
“The Meeting agreed to go beyond Kaduna State and form a national body for the entire 19 Northern States to identify with the objectives of standing up for the Christians in the Northern States of Nigeria and creating a solid platform for engendering effective participation ensuring inclusive political outcomes”.
The group attributed its endorsement to the performances of Tinubu and Sani, particularly the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences (FUAS), Kachia, and the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Kafanchan.
It said their re-election would enable them to consolidate their achievements and sustain ongoing initiatives.
The communiqué stated, “Given the performance profiles of both His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) and His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, especially the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences (FUAS) Kachia; Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Kafanchan, stakeholders resolved to support the re-election of the President and the Governor to enable them to consolidate and sustain what they have started at both the federal and state levels in the interest of Christians who were relegated by the previous administration led by Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai.”
The stakeholders pledged to mobilise Christians, particularly in the North West, to secure victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the 2027 presidential and Kaduna State governorship elections.
They also urged Christian political leaders to set aside personal interests, resolve internal disagreements and work together to protect their communities’ interests.
The communiqué further emphasised cooperation between Christians in Southern and Northern Kaduna, stressing the need for inclusive governance, fairness and accountability.
It stated, “That the Southern Kaduna Christians, in agreement with Northern Kaduna Christians, resolved to carry them along in the pursuit of our collective interest as a Christian bloc in the State.”
The stakeholders added, “That in solidly giving our support to the President and Governor, we the voters expect our leaders to reciprocate with inclusive governance and fairness in distributing the dividends of democracy, and that we shall then hold them accountable for the fulfilment of the aspirations of not only Christian communities in Kaduna State, but across the entire state of the North.”
