2027: Tinubu inaugurates APC Presidential Campaign Council, task leaders to ensure victory

President Bola  Tinubu has charged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to work towards securing victory in the 2027 presidential election, declaring that the party must consolidate its efforts and renew its covenant with Nigerians.
Tinubu gave the charge on Wednesday in Abuja while inaugurating the council at the State House Conference Centre, where he urged party leaders and members to remain united, disciplined and committed to the task ahead.
The President said the party’s previous electoral success would count for little without another victory in 2027, insisting that members must demonstrate their commitment by delivering votes in their respective wards.
“As I stand before you with a heart full of gratitude and spirit full of resolve, it is my honour to inaugurate the presidential campaign council of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 General Election. I thank all of you for the last election, but no one gets credit for an incomplete assignment until you deliver the next election, until you deliver your electoral wards, until you deliver the votes,” he said.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the campaign council to mobilise support for the party, urging its members to work collectively towards achieving their objectives without allowing electioneering activities to undermine the administration’s responsibilities.
The President also acknowledged the advice of Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, who cautioned against allowing the demands of the campaign to distract him from governance.
Uzodimma had assured Tinubu that APC governors and other party stakeholders would work to communicate the party’s message effectively to Nigerians during the campaign.
Responding, the President said his administration would maintain its focus on governance even as the party intensifies preparations for the election.
He stressed the need to fulfil the country’s financial obligations and create an environment capable of attracting investments to support economic growth and secure a better future for younger generations.
“However, I will still make time to speak directly with Nigerians even as you lead the campaign in the states and local government areas. We have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait. We want those investors to come in and invest for the future of our children,” the President said.
Tinubu further charged the campaign council to engage Nigerians responsibly and explain the policies and programmes being implemented under his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said the campaign should be anchored on constructive engagement with citizens and a clear presentation of the administration’s priorities and achievements.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima took aim at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his comments concerning the President, insisting that the office of the President must be accorded the respect it deserves.
” You can call him Bola. If you like, call him Adekunle, but he is the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Shettima said.
The Vice President also criticised Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing him of relying on questionable figures and making comparisons between Nigeria and other countries without providing the necessary context.
Shettima described Obi’s approach as “peddling bogus statistics and often comparing Nigeria with other countries without context.”
