Plateau PDP crisis: Wike-backed chairman, suspended by Turaki faction

The Plateau chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Peter Tongshep, its
Southern Zone Chairman for leading a faction of the party backed by  the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Nyesom Wike.
He was suspended by the Tanimu Turaki led faction of the PDP in the state.
Tongshep was returned as the State Chairman of the Wike  faction at a congress which took place last week under tight security, and was supervised by a seven-member delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The congress attracted prominent figures from the Wike-backed faction, including former Sports Ministers Damishi Sango and Musa I. Azi, Sarpiya Danyaro, Aminu Zang, Hon. Timothy Golu and Rt. Hon. Johnbul Shekarau, among other party chieftains.
The suspension was announced by the Turaki led State Working Committee in a statement issued on Thursday  in Jos.
The statement signed by the  Publicity Secretary,  Choji  Dalyop, said the party relied on its powers under Section 57(1) of the PDP Constitution 2017 (as amended), citing Tongshep’s conduct and actions as falling under Sections 58(1)(i) and (j) following a preliminary hearing.
He said during the suspension period, Tongshep is barred from functioning in his role as Southern Zone Vice Chairman of the PDP.
However, reacting Topshep dismissed the suspension, saying those behind it are working for the re-election of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
