27 PDP lawkmakers in Rivers assembly decamp to APC

Twenty-seven  members of the River House of Assembly elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers are said to be  loyal to the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
They were said to have taken the decision to join the APC during  a plenary session at about 8 am  on Monday at the assembly complex in Harcourt, the state capital, amid tight security.
The lawmakers attributed their action to the division within the PDP .
The defection of the lawmakers may not be unconnected with the  rift between the Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara  and Wike, his predecessor, over control of the political structure in the state.
The house, had on  October 30, initiated an  impeachment proceedings against Fubara.
Twenty four 24 of the 34 members of the assembly, were said to be behind the moves to impeach the governor.
The move led to the burning of a section of the house during a protest by the Fubara’s supporters.
