A group under the umbrella of Coalition of Kaduna Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to appoint Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar (aka Mairago) to fill the ministerial slot for Kaduna state.
Tinubu had earlier nominated ex- governor Nasir El-Rufai for appointment as minister. However, the senate withheld El-Rufai’s confirmation and those of two others, citing security reports from the Department of State Services (DSS).
El-Rufai was said to have suggested Jafaru Ibrahim Sani, a former commissioner for Local Government under his administration, for consideration by Tinubu.
However, in a statement on Friday in Kaduna, the coalition urged governor Uba Sani to support Abubakar in the interest of peace, unity, and progress of the state and the country as a whole.
The statement signed by Aliyu Sani, chairman of the group, said “Abubakar should be appointed Minister of Environment and Ecological Management, reserved for Kaduna state following the voluntary withdrawal of Malam Nasir El-Rufai”.
The group said Abubakar possesses the requisite qualification and experience for appointment as minister.
“His wealth of knowledge and experience as a legal practitioner, a lecturer, an economist, a politician and an administrator, has prepared him for appointment as minister”, the group said.
The statement described Abubakar as “a pillar and a force to reckon with in the politics of Kaduna state and Nigeria”, adding that he will be of tremendous asset to President Tinubu if appointed.
According to the statement, Abubakar has contributed immensely to the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state with positive impact.
“It can boldly be said that the foundation upon which the present government of Kaduna state rests upon lies on the shoulders of critical stakeholders like Abubakar”, the statement added.
