Five people have been killed in an attack on Nding Susut community, Fan district of Barkin Ladi Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau state.
The incident, according to a statement on Wednesday in Jos by the spokesperson of the Plateau state police command, Alfred Alabo occurred on Tuesday night.
He said in the gunmen opened fire on residents seated in front of their houses, killing four females and one nine-year-old boy.
“Three other victims, all females, sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at General Hospital, where the corpses of the deceased have also been deposited at the hospital morgue,” the statement reads.
“Upon receipt of the report, a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer, Barkin Ladi, was immediately mobilized to the scene. The area has since been secured, and normalcy is gradually being restored”.
The statement said, the Plateau state police commissioner, Bassey Ewah, strongly condemned the senseless act of violence and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the entire community of Nding Susut community.
Alabo said additional police tactical teams and assets had been deployed to the community to forestall further attacks and protect lives and property.
According to him, the deployment includes mobile police personnel and specialised units to strengthen patrols, intelligence gathering, and rapid response.
The police spokesperson said, “The Command is working closely with other security agencies and community leaders to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
“Investigations have commenced, and efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the assailants.”
