Protest in Kaduna over alleged killing by security operatives

There was protest in the Barnawa area of Kaduna metropolis on Monday evening following the alleged killing of a young man by operatives of the special joint task force, set up to tackle urban crime and drug abuse.
The task force, comprising personnel of the army, police, Department of State Services (DSS), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), among others, were said to have stormed a black spot around Barnawa market area.
There were no details of the incident, and the identity of the victim was not officially made known.
Furthermore, it could not be immediately confirmed whether the deceased was directly targeted or struck by a stray bullet.
The incident led to protest by angry youths who trooped out in large numbers, barricading and burning tyres along the major road, connecting Barnawa with some areas of the metropolis.
The protest disrupted vehicular movement as commuters were forced to take alternative routes.
The protesters, who were mainly youths, demanded justice for the victim.
The situation was, however, brought under control following the deployment of more security personnel to the area.
Spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, confirmed the incident but did not give details.
“Yes, we have received the information about the incident, and CP has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter,” he said in response to inquiries on the police/media WhatsApp platform..
