Gunmen kill unspecified number of people in deadly attack in Jos

An unspecified number of persons were reportedly killed on Sunday evening when gunmen attacked Anguwan Rukuba area of Jos, the Plateau State capital.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred at about 7.30pm, when the assailants stormed the neighbourhood on six motorcycles and opened fire on residents.
According to sources, the attackers shot indiscriminately, leaving several people dead and others injured.
The exact number of casualties could not be ascertained as of press time.
The gunmen were said to have fled the scene immediately after the attack, creating panic among residents.
The incident has heightened tension across the city.
Unverified sources said said the Plateau State Government has impose a curfew in parts of the city, aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful as calls to his phone went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
