2027: There will be no opposition to APC in Plateau, says Mutfwang

Plateau sate governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has declared that there will be no opposition to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state during the 2027 general election.
Mutfwang state this on Tuesday at the swearing in of Rufus Giwa the newly elected state Chairman of the party along side other executive members of the APC.
Bature and other members of the state executive committee emerged through a consensus arrangement.
The governor expressed confidence that the party would remain dominant in the state ahead of the 2027 poll.
“By the grace of God, in 2027, we will only contest this election among ourselves.
“There will be no opposition in Plateau”, he said.
Mutfwang said residents of the state have continued to show confidence in the party’s leadership and programmes.
“I believe the people of Plateau trust us, and they will continue to support us because they know we are working in their interest,” he added.
He said, “The opportunity given to us will be used for the betterment of the people of the state. The time to unite Plateau is now.”
The governor urged members of the party to embrace unity, tolerance, and reconciliation, describing the APC as a family.
He said internal disagreements should not weaken the party’s structure or shared aspirations.
Mutfwang added that issues requiring attention within the party would be resolved amicably in the overall interest of the APC.
He congratulated Bature and other members of the state executive committee on their emergence.
The governor urged the new executives to remain loyal to the party, the president and the people of Plateau state.
Mutfwang also announced a one-month statewide membership drive for the party.
“As evangelists of the party, I charge you to go to every nook and cranny of the state and persuade more people to join us.
“A bigger and stronger party will serve the interests of Plateau state better”, the governor said.
He urged members to promote the party’s electronic membership registration initiative.
He said electoral success depends on strong party structures and active grassroots mobilisation.
In his acceptance speech, Bature thanked party leaders and delegates for the confidence reposed in him and his team.
He described his re-election as both an honour and a responsibility.
Bature pledged to work diligently to meet the expectations of party members across the state.
He said the APC recorded several electoral successes during his previous tenure.
Bature listed the achievements to include the election of three senators, 23 members of the Plateau state house of assembly, eight members of the house of representatives, 17 local government chairmen, and 325 councillors on the APC platform.
He assured members that the party leadership would continue to provide constructive oversight and support to ensure accountability and sustained electoral success.
Mutfwang who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), however, he defected to the APC on January 2, 2026.
