DSS takes custody of El-Rufai

The Department of State Services (DSS) is said to have been taken custody of former Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai after spending two nights with the the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to sources, El-Rufai was taken at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday night by operatives of the DSS.
On Monday, the former governor presented himself at the EFCC headquarters following an invitation regarding alleged financial improprieties during his tenure as governor of Kaduna state between 2015 and 2023.
In 2024, the Kaduna state House Assembly indicted El-Rufai for alleged diversion of N423 billion of public funds and money laundering and recommended that he be investigated by anti-graft agencies.
El-Rufai has also been invited by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Last Thursday, security operatives attempted to arrest el-Rufai at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, when he touched down from Cairo, the capital of Egypt.
He said the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu instructed the Department of State Services (DSS) officials to arrest him upon arrival from Cairo.
In an interview on Arise Television programme – Prime Time on Saturday, El-Rufai
said “someone wiretapped” Ribadu’s phone, allowing him to listen to the NSA directing security operatives to arrest him.
On Monday, the DSS filed a three-count charge against the former governor for allegedly intercepting the NSA’s telephone conversation.
