The United States has delivered critical military supplies to the Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen security operations amid escalating violence across the country.
The delivery was announced on Tuesday by the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) in a statement posted on X.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership”, the statement said.
Although details of the specific equipment were not disclosed, the delivery is seen as part of broader U.S. support aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s capacity to address security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, and other transnational threats affecting the country.
The announcement comes against the backdrop of intensifying insecurity across parts of Nigeria, where militant groups and criminal networks have killed and abducted many people for years.
Extremist groups like Boko Haram and the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Fulani militias have carried out mass kidnappings, including the abduction of hundreds of schoolchildren and deadly attacks on villages, markets, and places of worship, contributing to one of the country’s worst security crises in decades.
In late December 2025, the U.S. military, in coordination with Nigerian authorities, conducted airstrikes on suspected terrorist enclaves in Sokoto State.
President Donald Trump announced the operations on Christmas Day, describing them as strikes against ISIS-linked militants who had allegedly targeted Christians in the region.
U.S. officials said the attack was carried out at the request of Nigerian authorities and aimed to degrade extremist networks operating along the Nigeria–Sahel border.
