Solomon Arase, former IGP, dies at 69

Former Inspector General of  Police (IGP), Solomon Arase is dead. He was aged 69. Arase, a former chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), died at about 9 am on Sunday at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja.
Solomon Arase Jnr, the deceased son, announced the passing of his father on behalf of the family.
In a statement on Sunday Arase Jnr said, “The family seeks the understanding and prayers of friends, associates and well-wishers at this difficult moment, as they make necessary arrangements for his obsequious which will be announced in due course.”
Born on June 21, 1956, Arase enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in 1981 after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in political science at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
He served in various departments in the NPF and rose to the apex of his career in the police force.
In April 2015,  he was appointed as the IGP by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He retired in June 2016 after serving 35 years in the Nigerian Police Force
Before he was appointed IGP, Arase had led the criminal intelligence and investigations department (FCIID) of the force.
He  also served as commissioner of police in Akwa Ibom state.
He was PSC in March 2023 by late former President Muhammadu Buhari .
