The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has said that the military is reassessing its operational strategies to tackle rising insecurity in Plateau and other areas covered by Operation Safe Haven.
According to a statement by Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, spokesperson of the Defence Headquarters, the CDS stated his on Friday in Jos during a visit to the headquarters of Operation Save Heaven.
Musa said the military is adapting its tactics to match the asymmetric nature of the conflict in the region while also calling on local leaders to discourage youths from shielding criminal elements in their communities.
“We must take decisive actions to halt the cycle of violence affecting Plateau and neighbouring states,” the statement said.
He added that military commanders would be held accountable for negligence and promised improved logistical support for troops.
Commander of Operation Safe Haven and general officer commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major. Gen. Eyitayo Oyinlola highlighted the operation’s recent gains and efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration.
He said the command is building a robust intelligence network to better protect vulnerable communities and will sustain ongoing peace efforts
The CDS also visited the Nigerian Army Medical Centre in Tigi and Sector 6 in Jebbu Bindi, Riyom LGA, where he pledged support to improve medical services for frontline soldiers and residents.
Musa’s visit comes in the wake of a recent attack near Chirang village in Bokkos LGA, where suspected bandits killed 14 people.
