Nasarawa traditional ruler regains freedom, wife remains in captivity

The Chief of Gurku in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa state, Alhaji Jibrin Waziri has been released after six days in captivity.
However, his wife, Sa’adatu, is still being held by the bandits.
The traditional ruler and his wife were abducted by gunmen at his palace in Gurku, on August 7, at about 10pm.
Waziri’s release was confirmed in a statement on Monday by Mallam Zubairu Adamu, the District Head of Gurku.
The statement said the traditional ruler was released by his abductors in the early hours of Monday unhurt.
“Sarkin Gurku His Royal Highness, Alhaji Jibrin Waziri has regained his freedom after spending one week in captivity”, the statement reads.
“Accordingly, the royal father was released by his abductors in the early hours of Monday unhurt.
“While thanking all that assisted in one way or the other towards the release of the monarch, the Gurku traditional council confirmed the release of the paramount ruler of the Chiefdom, but regrettably, the abductors are still holding hostage the wife Hajia Sa’adatu that were kidnapped along with the royal father.
“As the palace called for an intensified prayers for the release of the wife of the royal father, the traditional council equally appreciated the security agents and appealed to the residents to be calm and vigilant as security is a responsibility of all.”
The statement did not say if a ransom was paid to the bandits for the release of the traditional ruler.
